DETAILS: http://www.facebook.com/events/305817082775419/

A$AP Rocky - Purple Swag (Jim-E Stack Bootleg):  spooked out sticky single.

Beaunoise - Did I Kill Someone I Don't Know About:  Juvenile breakcorerycore.  Just the way we like it.

Bombay Bicycle Club - Lights Out, Words Gone:  A perfectly tender pop song from the new album A Different Kind Of Fix.

Fanfarlo - Replicate (Teletextile Remix):  An incredible remix with lush isntrumentation AND funny whistle sound.  I love it.

Groove Theory - Tell Me (George FitzGerald Remix):  I love sexy garagey sounds that aren't all overblown and BRO-INFUSED.

Heavy D & The Boyz - Nuttin But Love (Cookin Soul Remix)
Heavy D & The Boyz - We Got Our Own Thang (Cheapshot Tribute Remix):  R.I.P.

JLYMN - As of Yet:  fun washes of clickedy idm goodness!  I like that they didn't stop lovin' the synths.

Movits! - Vad Dom Än Säger:  Totally swingin' pop and yeah I have no idea what's going on.

Nuck Chorris - Blue:  Oh what is that?  More delicate instrumental beats?  OK!

Rebeka - Fail:  Annie Lennox for a new generation?

Rewards - Equal Dreams ft Solange Knowles (Eddie Mars Remix):   Yes, Beyonce's sister is totally cooler than Beyonce will ever be.

Savoir Adore - Dreamers:  Romantic pop, shimmering guitars, and a big payoff.

Say My Name - Badlands:  Moody downtown beats.

Slow Club - Beginners:  The new album Paradise doesn't have the same joy of the first album that I was looking for, alas.  But if you wanted them to develop a more brooding and complex sound, this might be for you.

Sun Glitters - Too Much To Lose (Slow Magic Remix):  The world of electro pop after the age of School Of Seven Bells and DJ Screw is a wonderful place to be.

The Kilimanjaro Darkjazz Ensemble - Celladoor:  New album of dark jazz moods for gothy dinner parties!  From The Stairwell is out now and while I have never truly dug an entire album of their's, there are always many beautiful gems.

Wooden Sky - River Song One:  Oh and I love when we end on a tender folk song!

MP3 blog 2011/11/23

blog 2011/11/23 - a frame around the antlers that cradle us all.

A.Dd+ - Genocide:  It takes a careful balance to make claustrophic hiphop like this work, and I think they do it really well, even if they have a few Kanye production techniques bitten so obviously.

Beacon - No Body:  A touch of Thom Yorke whispering, but with an ohsomuchmore pleasing and nuzzling beat.

Boards of Canada - Olson (Wrm remix):  HOW COME NO ONE THOUGHT OF THIS BEFORE?  Super modern bass under BOC classics.  SO FUCKING GOOD.

City of Glass - Tourist:  Shades of U2 perhaps?  From the new The Diving Bell EP.

Cloud Nothings - No Future, No Past:  From Attack On Memory, this sounds like the normally upbeat Cloud Nothings took Japandroids, reduced them to a fine powder, and smoke them in a cigar.

Elbow - Buffalo Ghosts:  A b-side from the Open Arms single, this is another slowburner that you have to really let wash over you.

Goldfrapp - Rocket (Richard X One Zero Remix):  Total shiny electropop experience.  Strap on the mooboots and enter the future!

Jack Dixon - Coconuts:  Clicky dubby beats that often sound like they are on the verge of falling apart, but come together cohesively with a big smooth subbass lick.

Mates Of State - Palomino:  Another cut from that new Mountaintops record I haven't gotten around to listening to yet...  exhaltation to make even M83 take notice.

Nicki Minaj - Dopeman:  While I normally skip over the mounds of new Nicki I couldn't help but check this track out, and lo and behold as suspected she flips the classic dopeman sample and oh I can't resist.

Nóra - Opin fyrir morði:  Uhhh so it's from the album "Er einhver að hlusta?" and yeah I have no idea what they are saying.  oh Iceland!

Ripperton - The Sandbox:  Niwa blows always all expectations for Ripperton and is a producer's dream.  So many fabulous ideas played with and you can just feel how much he enjoyed making this album.

Sheila D Yeah and TT The Artist - Bad Bitches Drop It Low (Slick Shoota Remix):  I normally don't both with the juke ish, but this one kind of rocks my soft spots.

The Wonder Years - Coffee Eyes
The Wonder Years - My Life As A Pigeon:  High school, is that you?  "Suburbia I've Given You All and Now I'm Nothing" will make you feel like a kid again.  In a good way and a bad way.  Recommended!

Yamantaka // Sonic Titan - Queens:  YT//ST is at heart a pop album, but one that falls somewhere between Gang Gang Dance, The Boredoms and Bat For Lashes.  and yes, there is quite an amazing chasm there!  Highly recommended.

Yo-Yo Ma, Stuart Duncan, Edgar Meyer, Chris Thile - Attaboy
Yo-Yo Ma, Stuart Duncan, Edgar Meyer, Chris Thile - Helping Hand:  Staggeringly addictive Americana classical that will have you running out and buying a new sound system and referring to it as your "hi-fi".   Highly recommended!

MP3 blog 2011/11/18

blog 2011/11/18 - this week all falls apart but we have a frame at least

Yes yes, only 2 days since the last one, but omg there is just too much love in the world to stop now.

Channel Live - Mad Izm (Cheapshot Remix):  Ahhh the KRS-One styleeeeeeeeeeeee.  And the chimes and french horns.  Yes.

Dilo - An Iceberg And A Caribou (Sebastian Cohen Remix):  Uplifting techy meandering form the 2009 Waheira release.  So much stuff going on in this one.

DJ Shadow - I've Been Trying (Various I'm Done Trying Mix):  This ressurects that dark turn-of-century Ninja Tunes styles that made everyone's knees a bit wobbly.  From the new album I Gotta Rokk, this is the saviour of it all.

Dominant Legs - Where We Trip The Light:  At first jangles you might think it is Vampire Weekend, BUT NO!  You have made a terrible mistake.  From the album Invitation.

Ellie Goulding - The Writer (Live Acoustic Version):  I love this song, it was a track that really grew on me from her full length.  This one comes from the single of the same name, and any Tori Fan knows to mine the singles.

Gabriel Prokofiev - String Quartet No. 2 (Vex'd Remix):  Screw renditions of electronic tracks by classical musicians, we need more remixes of classical music by electronic musicians.

Guanaco ± - Lepidoptera:  From the new album Ardea Cinerea, gorgeous lush guitar work.

How To Dress Well - Suicide Dream 2 (Elite Gymnastics Baptism):  From "Just Once", Elite Gymnastics give us another taste of chillwave grooove.

Katie Kim - 500 Miles (The Pretenders cover):  Who'd have thought this song would sound so sensitive, so... NOT STALKERISH.

Lems - Footsteps:  Some fancy-pants piano breakbeats for breakfast.

Parenthetical Girls - Sympathy For Spastics:  They may not be for everyone's tastes, but oh I've taking a liking to the string of Privilege EPs.  Now we have "Privilege, Pt. IV: Sympathy For Spastics" and it's just as wonderful.  Recommended for anyone who likes their rock n roll done Cabaret style.

Rookie - Azure:  More smooth ninjabreak yumminess.

Sigur Rós - Svefn-g-englar (live):  Inni is a double-live collection.  Yup, this is the moneyshot.  If live albums are your thing, you can't really go wrong with the epicness of Sigur Rós.  And if Sigur Rós are your thing, you can't really go wrong with this live album.

Summer Camp - Ghost Train
Summer Camp - I Want You:  Total cutesiepop with a dark evil edge.

Tropics - Mouves (Botany Remix):  The stutterbeat reminds me of Radiohead's latest album.  Too bad those boys never got this sparkley.

MP3 blog 2011/11/16

blog 2011/11/16 - blarrrgggh the infection, she is spreading!

I am oh so sicky today.  Booooo.
But did I mention I am starting a quarterly queer dance party in Ottawa called Q-BOUNCE?
Join up at http://q-bounce.ca for further updates.  QUEER BASS UNDERGROUND, and all that fun stuff.

A$AP Rocky - Out of This World:  Super hypey rapper doesn't quite suck as everoyne wishes he did.  More News at 11.

Amy Lee - Halfway Down the Stairs (The Muppets cover)
Rachael Yamagata - I'm Going to Go Back There Someday (The Muppets cover)
Weezer - Rainbow Connection ft Hayley Williams (The Muppets cover):  I'll save you the temptation.  The Green Album is covers of Muppets classics by superstar adult contepmorary pop artists.  These are the best Muppet songs, and thankfully the artists that do them don't entirely butcher them, even though the production is straight-up Imogen Heap.  And if you can get by the bkacup vox on the Yamagata track sounding straight from a Glee soundtrack, it's one of the greatest emotional triggers ever.

Ane Brun - Do You Remember:  Yeah so here's the deal:  If you don't like this song you just have no soul.  Not in the "appropriating black culture" kind of way, but in the "omg you must be a spiritually devoid zombie beast" kind of way.

Bassnectar - Teleport Massive (RJD2 Remix):  The normally cold Bassnectar productions get some welcome warmth from breakbeat master RJD2.  So good.

Carrousel - 14:  Appropriately swelling singer/songwriter goodness.

Gem Club - Twins:  Chris Garneau emotiveness with a tender instrumental section.  From the new album Breakers.

GuMMy†Be_R! - Cognitive Ascension:  The new release TIME isn't so hot, but at least he hasn't abandoned his production aesthetic like so many of the other witchers.  This track is pretty hot.

James Vincent McMorrow - If I Had A Boat:    OK, so maybe I have a thing for emo male voices this week.

Kid Koala - Main Title Theme (Open Your Book)
Kid Koala - Speed of Light (Page 102):  Making a soundtrack to your book, with page references?  EXCELLENT IDEA.  Making it one of the most tender instrumental records of the year?  BESTEST IDEA.  Highly recomended.

Lana Del Rey - Video Games (Jamie Woon Remix):  The original is a touch silly. but Woon works it in all the right ways.

Male Bonding - Year's Not Long:  The new album Nothing Hurts falls somewhere between Dinosaur Jr. and Japandroids, but with the muffed out garage fuzz that I can't quite fully love yet.

Pole - Wipfel:  Hey!  Remember Pole?  Oh come on, you remember Pole....  Remember back when Clicks N Cuts was a thing?  No?  *sigh*  Oh you people.  Well he's back with Waldgeschichten and those that know will enjoy.

St. Vincent And The National - Sleep All Summer:  Yeah some duets are just handed to us straight from the gods.  srsly.

Sutekh - Fire Weather:  Evil dub minimal bass OK!

Warm Brew - Nothin From Nothin:  Feel good sunshine beats + rhymes for the dark days of November.

Zola Jesus - Lick The Palm Of The Burning Handshake
Zola Jesus - Shivers:  The new album Conatus doesn't quite do it for me like the last one.  Alas.  But I like these tracks.

MP3 blog 2011/11/08

blog 2011/11/08 - sometimes its best to just enjoy your friend's dog and not get your own

Andy Stott - Posers:  Thumpmaster Andy is back with We Stay Together and yes, it is just as delicious as before.  Highly recommended for all beatheads with a sinister streak.

Being - Quiet Rain (The Green Kingdom Remix):  Being's ambience is always lovely, and it's great to see it get the rhythmic beatwash approach as well.   I hope they release more singles like this.

Christina Vantzou - And Instantly Take Effect
Christina Vantzou - Small Choir:  "No. 1"  has lush ambience in that majestic Robert Rich kind fo way.  A touch of newage synth, but more contemplative stuff that reminds me of the best of Being (see above!), with all of the lushness of organic instruments.

City of Satellites - Machine Is My Animal (Tin Manzano Remix):  Let's keep that mellow vibe and add a touch of gentle bass.  A perfect little Sunday-morning coffee-and-snuggles jam.

Das Racist - Michael Jackson
Das Racist - Shut Up, Man ft El-P
Das Racist - The Trick:  YEAH THAT'S RIGHT.  After the last few songs in this post, BOOM, MICHAEL JACKSON.  Fucking abrasive.  I wasn't in to this new single at first, but oh it grew on me.  And people have been slagging on the first proper full length Relax, but damn it is super fun and has lots of great stuff going on in it.  Fun is had!  Guests are invited!  Styles are flipped!

D-Jastic - Up To No Good (F^K Y3AH! Re-Bounce):  What, we can't say  Fuck Yeah?  And yes, I do love any song that drops classic breaks samples in to them.

Girls - Forgiveness:  "Father, Son, Holy Ghost" is an amazing new album.  It has the songwriting of hangover-era Ween albums, earnest delivery of the early 90s, teenage melodrama and ummm.. gospel choirs!  Perfect.  Highly recommended.

Lanterns On The Lake - Keep On Trying:  Something about the sound of the creaking floorboards in this that just makes it oh so downhome wholesome.  From Gracious Tide, Take Me Home.

Static - Corazon, Cristal:  Oh we are back in a section of the light and breezy.  The singing and warmth synth reminds me fondly of Morr Music's later releases.  From the new album Freedom Of Noise.

The Decemberists - Burying Davy
The Decemberists - Row Jimmy:  Newly release, "Long Live The King" EP follows The King Is Dead.  While not essential for music fans as a whole, all Decemberist fans should get this.  These aren't as polished, but still great songs.

Tom Waits - Bad as Me
Tom Waits - Talking at the Same Time:  BOW DOWN PEOPLE, "Bad as Me" IS OUT.  Tom Waits, living deity.  Get in line.

MP3 blog 2011/11/04

blog 2011/11/04 - breaching the threshhold means that yes, you'd be a jerk for complaining.

Active Child - Playing House:  The modern sleazyhipster R&B movement produces a handful of fun-yet-unsettling tracks.  At least they're big on the acapella front.  Like a sexed up James Blake with daddy issues and viagra?

Ambassadeurs - Rossler:  More sleazybeats, the sick depths of downtempo slink.

Angus and Julia Stone - Big Jet Plane (Stern Disco Remix):  Plodding electro pop for the Todd Terje fans out there.

Balam Acab - Apart
Balam Acab - Motion:  "Wander / Wonder" is the breakout album from the witchhouse scene.  Incredibley satisfying, while not ditching much of what made the earlier singles magical.  You'd expect something like this on Ninja Tune.  Highly recommended.

D. Gookin - Glad I Met You:  Oh I'm giddy on the beats today!  We drop the sleeze and pipe in some happyhappyjoyjoy synth bizness.  People, never be afraid to raise the HANDCLAPS up in the mix!

Giraffage - Moments:  GIRAFFAGE.  Use in a sentence?  Oh man what a wild party last night, there was so much sexy giraffage going down at that party!

Goldmund - Nihon:  I love me some delicate piano, but even more I love it when they mic all of the creaks of the sustain pedals and squeaking seat.

King Britt & Sister Gertrude Morgan - New World In My View:  From the True Blood soundtrack.  Don't hate me.  Come on, who can resist sexy gay vampires having hot gay vampire sex?

Mikal Cronin - Apathy:  Woah, took us this long to arrive at some straight-up pop?  hunh.

Orchestra of Spheres - Hypercube:  Amazing trancing percussion from Nonagonic Now.

Panic! At The Disco - C'mon (Fade):  Ben Folds pop core!

RAC - 1979 ft Liz Anjos (Smashing Pumpkins cover):  Oh come on, sure Corrigan is a douche but how can you resist this song?  The vocalist reminds of a typical Happy Hardcore singer, but it all still works and yes I still love RAC.

St. Vincent - These Days (Nico cover):  oh *heart* *heart* *heart* *heart* *heart* *heart* *heart* *heart*

The Black Ghosts - Water Will Find A Way:  I wasn't all in to the new album "When Animals Stare", but this song is strictly-by-the-books radio hit in the waiting.  And ummm wait, is that tuba?  Someone get these kids to drop the xylophone and up the dubstep remixes.

The XX - Insects (Rodaidh Mix):  B-side remixe from the VCR single.  Nothing new, but good enough for us salivating fangirls.

Tim Hecker - Sketch 1:  Dropped Pianos is a bit of a slump for Hecker, but grab it if you're a completist.

Tokyo Police Club - All My Friends (LCD Soundsystem cover)
Tokyo Police Club - Sweetness ft Michael Angelakos of Passion Pit (Jimmy Eat World cover):  TPC get jiggy with their 10x10x10 covers album.  While they aren't all zingers, these two are classics.  All My Friends is a perfect bittersweet anthem about adolescencent sentiment, and should probably be covered by every bad ever.  Check blog20100512 for the Franz Ferdinand version and blog20110105 for the Stephen Francis take on it.
