Holy shit, 2004 was a busy year! Here we have mix #5 from that period.
I had been playing gigs for a number of charities at this point, and in particular for parties run by Venus Envy, a local women's health and sex supplies store. A few of my friends worked there and one asked for a mix of stuff to play in the store.
Borrowing from recent sets I did for Ladyfest Ottawa and the Venus Envy gigs, I assembled this mixtape. It abandons a lot of strict DJ rules, but was more fun for that.

CPI - June 19th 2004, Om Festival, Canada: Sumkidz Stage
This was probably one of my favourite sets ever. Om was a big hippie rave in the woods for 5 days with many soundstages and lots of good vibes.
I player Saturday afternoon on the largest stage there. It had been cold and rainy, and just as my set started (I think around 2:30?) the sun came out from behind the clouds and suddenly it was all smiles and dancing.

CPI - Libations for the Gods
By this point in the game everyone was clamoring for more party and dance-oriented sets, as had been unfurled at a few underground parties.
My response to that was to release another abstract hiphop mix. And oh boy did I love this one.
I was releasing these as limited edition physical promotional products back then, and the art for this one was from a Liam Thurston painting I bought, and was one of the best visual representations I had ever seen for my mixes at that point.

CPI - No Ones Around, There's No Need To Fake It
Most of my mixes, especially back in the first 6 years, were a scrapbook for me. They were there to remind me of certain emotions and states of being.
They were mnemonic devices to guide me on certain paths, for history and for ritual.
This was my favourite period of DJing. I almost got zero gigs because I was waaaay too abstract and outsider, and liked it that way.
This mix was the shining crown jewel of that period. After this my mystique became eroded as I became "Ottawa Famous". (tongue/cheek/check)
I was so proud of how the first half is all 60 bpm. I beat per second. Come follow me on a journey...
