Reasons I am a terrible at this DJ thing:
I don't care what anyone else wants to hear.
I don't have sexy glossy photos.
I don't network.
I don't care about fashion.
Instead of going to other DJ nights I stay home and work on noise projects.
Chances are I do not have what you want to hear.
I get confused as to why people aren't in to what I am doing, but strive to not actually care, and stay focused.

I feel like I need to wipe the slate clean of that pretension, get back to my original focus, and stop comparing myself to DJs that actually have "success" or "demand" or "buzz" or any of that, because really that's never what it was about, but somewhere along the way I lost the plot.

MP3 blog 2012/10/25

blog 2012/10/25 - these are the secrets that jerkass facebook doesn't want you to know about

AU - Solid Gold (JD Remix):  Oh the clunky abstract folk joy of it all!  I love love love this.

Brenton Duvall - Hip Hop You Saved Me:  Super smooth bass + breaks yesssss

Buraka Som Sistema - Peaches:  I wasn't too into the Scion Sessions, but I liked this banger.

Ding Chengyum - The Song Of King Yao:  Stunning piece off the new collection Treasures Of Chinese Instrumental Music: Guqin.

Flosstradamus - Rollup (Baauer Remix):  OH HEY ON THE TOPIC OF BANGERS….

Goldroom - Fifteen ft Chela (TABS Remix):  Sometimes electropop is just absolutely perfect.

Handshakes - Ridge:  Frantic janglepop is all good for me.

Jen Schande - I Really Like Sonic Youth, And I Really Want To Have Sex With You:  The pulsing breathiness of the beat goes surprisingly well with the vocals, giving it a tad of a glitch instead of just oblitterating it.  Deep goodness.

Jessie Ware - Running (Disclosure Remix):  Copenhagen Dreams is a stunning album of soft piano and delicate yearning strings.   Recommended!

Johann Johannsson - They Imagine the City Growing out Into the Ocean:  Copenhagen Dreams is a stunning album of soft piano and delicate yearning strings.   Recommended!

Kuhrye-oo - Old Son:  This reminds me of old Orb.  I like that.

Mess Kid - Sipslow (Morri$ Prpl Drvnk Remix):  syrrrup slipping beats all over the face.

Oddisee - Anothers Grind:  Nice little sunshiney moralist hiphop ish.

Sloane Alabaster - Glossanova:  Heady downtempo soul

Stumbleine - Ember (Sorrow Remix):  More smooth dark piano beats, a trend!

The Balconies - Kill Count:  From last year's LP Kill Count.

Divergence Movie Night presents "Swimming With Lesbians"

Wednesday, October 24th, 8pm:
Divergence Movie Night presents "Swimming With Lesbians"
Gays and Lesbians don’t grow up immersed in gay history, it is something they must search for. Swimming with Lesbians explores an upstate New York community’s efforts to create an LGBT historic archive.  The archive is more than just the proof that the raw material of history exists. It is for many an important acknowledgement of a struggle to be seen, acknowledged and known.

Free admission, $5-$10 suggested donation.

MP3 blog 2012/10/19

blog2012/10/19 - I fade and you won't even remember, but I have faith in you.

Lots of lesser-known indie goods up in this update!

Angel Haze - Werkin' Girls:  It's a post-Azealia Banks world we be living in.

Bambino - Mother Enigma:  Sweet afternoon downtempo.

Bersarin Quartett - Keine Angst:  Sweet soft delicate strings to nap to.

Bobby C Sound TV - Jelly Belly:  Good ol' time classics with the big bass treatment!

Chris McFarland - Wild Abandon:  ahhh bar room rock, good on you.

Clicks And Whistles - Raw Passion:  Steppy snaps all over the place, duck!

Crystal Castles - Empathy (spf50 edit):  CC gets the electroplod done proper.

Destiny's Child - Say My Name (Cyril Hahn Remix):  Needs more cough syrup.

Easter Island - Frightened:  Epic mopiness!

Flying Lotus - Between Friends ft Earl Sweatshirt & Captain Murphy:  Stumblling through it all.

Jokers Of The Scene - Black Mountie:  If you thought tech-house was a fully flogged genre, these electro Canucks have a thing or two to say about that.

Kitten - Cut It Out:  Love the smooth indie rock vibe on this one.

Langhorne Slim & The Law - The Way We Move
Langhorne Slim & The Law - Wild Soul:  Grungey creaker rock.

Meyhem Lauren - BBQ Brisket ft Action Bronson & AG Da Coroner:  Bronson knocks it out of the park, as usual…

Passion Pit - Carried Away:  Back with the ecastasy pop!

Phantods - Music is Dead:  Some YYYs ish going on here.

School of Seven Bells - How To Love:  SoSB slows it down for this single that has makeouts all over it.  Thumbs up for using male-sounding background vox.

MP3 blog 2012/10/12

blog 2012/10/12 - useless, forgotten, and working so heard like the rest of the hive

Andrew Bird - Desperation Breeds
Andrew Bird - Orpheo Looks Back:  I've had time to let it simmer, and the conclusion is in:  Bird's new album Break It Yourself is recommended, a more folkpop take on an intersection of Sandro Perri and Fleet Foxes.

Bear Language - The Ventriloquist, Part 1
Bear Language - The Ventriloquist, Part 2
Bear Language - The Ventriloquist, Part 3:  I was tempted to just conjoin these, but naaaaah, here's this lovely epic pop song, in its original sliced form.

Bernhoft - Cmon Talk:  Soul-tinged pop from the album Solidarity Breaks.

Born Gold - Sky Bicycle:  Gobble Gobble is now Born Gold, and here he fires up the vocal processor patch he borrowed from Ween and rocks it over a snap beat.

Cultfever - Knew You Well (Eight Bit Tiger Remix):  I dropped the original here before, but I've been loving on this gigley electropop rework.

Dose One - Last Life
Dose One - OwlShark:  Are you a 13 & God fan?  You'll be happy to know the new Dose One record starts from that point and keeps running.  G is for Deep has similar structural similarities to the best of 13 & God, so you get all that minus the Acher crooning.  Wholly unique and envigorating pop music, and definitely recommended for those in the know.

Erik Gundel - The Mountains Grow:  Sweet and sentimental instrumental beauty from the album A Home to Keep You.

Ladyhawke - Sunday Drive (Villa Remix):  Reminding me a bit of a Yeah Yeah Yeahs remix, this is just some straightup electropop fun.

Message To Bears - Daylight Goodbye:  Lyricless post-rock crooning done oh so well, from the album Folding Leaves.

Radj - Aurora:  Sometimes all you need for a smooth downtempo track is an upright bass sample, some chimes, and your break.

Simian Mobile Disco - Bad Blood:  Oh that's right, bet you weren't expecting HOT CHIP on the vocals???  Hot hot hot.

Siskiyou - Twigs And Stones:  With vocals sounding like the Rheostatics and a brass section that shines as much as when TMBG utilize one, this song off Keep Away The Dead is such a delight.

The KickDrums - Thieves In The Choir ft Casey Veggies:  Kickdrums are up there with RAC for producing such super satisfying pop dance tracks.

Tours - Near Me
Tours - Point Culminant:  Pitched low pop beat goodness.

Wild Ones - It's Real:  Close it out with the tweepop goodness.

MP3 blog 2012/10/02

blog 2012/10/02 - the backs of my eyeballs ache with all that I see

7FT vs Snow - Lonely Morning (Refix):  Time to ressurect the greatness of SNOW, fake patois an all!

Aaliyah - Enough Said ft Drake (Shlohmo Remix):  Yes, it is only appropriate to bring back Aaliyah as a haunting demon of tragic regrets.

Ambassadeurs - My World:  I bet you can't tell that I'm in to that drippy bass shit, right?  Fucking GLIDE.

Chant of Victory - Right Now (80's Mix):  This is what producers should be striving for:  engineering your shit so it STRAIGHTUP 80S GOODNESS.  This is some Kate Bush / Robin S pop brilliance right here.

Danny Brown - Die Like A Rockstar (Lou Cypher Remix):  Love Danny's flow, but he always goes on too long and just says too much SHIT and then I'm all "meh, I don't need to listen to this…" but luckily this track is a distillation and doesn't overstay its welcome.

Dusky - No More:  Sleep deep bass house vibes!

Echo Lake - Wild Peace:  Sweet dream pop from the album Wild Peace.

Farleon - Millenium:  HAPPY ELECTRO RAVE PARTY!

Ghost Loft - Blow
Ghost Loft - Seconds:  Taking notes from The Weeknd, this is some chilled out rnb grooveness.

Horse Feathers - Fit Against The Country:  The new album, Cynic's New Year, doesn't catch me like their last one, tragically.  But check it out if you're down with the smooth roots folk.

Jack White - Blunderbuss:  I never though I'd care about Jack White channelling his angsty Zeppelin, but here we are…

North Atlantic Drift - Waiting In The Afterglow:  Epic IDM post-rock nordic wastelands adventure death spiral dream then wake up.

Sacred Animals Vs Steffaloo - On Fire:  Dreamy breezey clicky beats with sexy vocals, never fails.

The Album Leaf - Descent:  Ecstatic instrumental piece from the new album Forward/Return.

The Corin Tucker Band - Groundhog Day:  Corin's all "yo!  Remember me?  I'M BACK."

The Mountain Goats - Cry for Judas:  Transcendental Youth is the new Mountain Goats album and yeah umm it hasn't seduced me nearly as much as I was hoping it would.  And I'm a pretty huge MG fan.  I'm going to let this one simmer.

Thomalla - Alftavatn:  Let's end this with some slickass tech-yo.
