MP3 blog 2010/03/11

blog 2010/03/11 - Where were you on this fateful day, happening at this very moment?

Enough breathing time?  Yes?  No?  who cares!

23 Deluxe - Show Me Happiness (Radio Edit):  Want happiness?  Here is happiness!  Super pop garage fun 10000!  Love it.

Ben Frost - Leo Needs A New Pair Of Shoes
Ben Frost - Peter Venkman Part II:  The Ben Frost album is a delight and a must-have for any fans of cinematic sound-art works.  For fans of the narrative textures of Peter Rehberg, O.S.T., Terre Thaemlitz, some of Mika Vainio's collaborative efforts, and even reaching in to the fan-base of the Supersilent collabs.
Fabulous stuff.  And bonus points for the nerdiest of nerdy track titles.

Bohren Und Der Club Of Gore - Mitleid Lady:  from the Mitleid Lady EP, here comes another slow slab of dark jazz bliss.  There have been so many fucking imitators coming out of the sludge/doom metal scene that have tried to bite their style, but no one comes close to the sinister and sexy majesty of Bohren Und Der Club Of Gore.

Fang Island - Careful Crossers
Fang Island - Sideswiper:  Fang Island rule!  The album is short and sweet and a pitch perfect rock-gasm.  Sounding a bit like Holy Fuck, but with the fun of Man Or Asttroman tossed in to the instrumental rock.
But it's not all instrumental, with some dashes of heartfelt off-key vocals that make me reminisce about Cap'N'Jazz and that early 90s emo where screaming meant you were fucking happy and delighted and not entirely sad, but inspired to take on this big ole world of adversity.  Oh emo, what happened to you?  Fang Island will share their popsicle with you.

Lil Wayne - Kobe Bryant:  Probably the best explicity sports-theme song I've heard in a long time, maybe since The Sporting Life or the remixes of the Rocky Theme.

Mathhead - Terror Inc:  I have a softspot for this kind of sci-fi cheese dubstep.  I mean really, not since breakcore has there been such a perfect genre to bust out the badass movie samples and get all creepy-synth and smash-bassey on the populace.  Hey dubstep producers:  More songs with DOOM samples, please?

MJ Cole - Sincere (Nero Remix):  2 of my favourite producers are on the track!  Caitlyn is pleased.  Carry on with your day.

Mochipet - Spring ft Daedelus:  A highlight from Mochipet's Bunnies & Muffins album!  I can't really get in to the unfocussed noodling of Mochipet, but when you toss in Daedelus, who is PROFESSIONALLY UNFOCUSED, it all comes out on the other side 1 shade of perfect.

Natalia Lafourcade - Ella Es Bonita
Natalia Lafourcade - Hu Hu Hu:  After raving about the single Azul I posted in update blog20090928, I went and checked out the 2009 full length Hu Hu Hu.  I am happy to report there are at least 6 quite amazing songs on it, and you should check it out if you like these singles, Emilianna Torrini, and the like.

Pete Rock and CL Smooth - Straighten It Out (Remix):  Every once in a while I just like to toss in something older that I have been listening to.  This remix is from the Straighten It Out single, circa 1995.

Regina Spektor - Us:  I made no bones about my disatisfaction with Spektor's more recent works, but this track, taken from the (500) Days Of Summer soundtrack, finally strikes me in a good way.

Storsveit Nix Noltes - Nevestinko Horo
Storsveit Nix Noltes - Pajdusko:  What better way to end things than with 2009's Royal Family-Divorce LP?  Progressive klezmer jack rock for everyone!  So good.

  1. Regina Spektor's Us is from her 2004 album Soviet Kitsch. If you like that you might like the rest of her album.
