MP3 blog 2011/05/31

blog 2011/05/31 - Going back to Philly, to Philly, to Philly...

Here's your goodness for the week!  I gotta hit the road, gig in Philly this weekend.

8in8 - One Tiny Thing:  The organ gives this indiepop a tiny baroque brazing, but the underpinnings is the soul-fed vocals and really it's fabulous all the way through.  From the new album Nighty Night.

Alela Diane & Wild Devine - Of Many Colors:  Tragedy!  I had such high hopes for this album, but alas...  This song is fabulous though.  And if you haven't yet, be sure to check out the masterful LP To Be Still from 2009.

Bohren & der Club of Gore - Zombies Never Die (Blues):  Oh I love me some Bohren gore!  The new (album?  EP?  It's 35 minutes long but only 3 tracks...) is Beileid and it even features horror-vocal-maestro Mike Patton.  You got your doom in my jazz!  You got your jazz in my sludge!  You got your sludge all over the rug!

Donnis - Eyes Low ft Gorilla Zoe & Young Dro:  I am extremely critical of clubby hiphop, but dayyam even I find faults with this perfect little banger...  I even like the chorus.  wtf.

Eclectic Method & Chuck D - Outta Sight:  MOTHERFUCKING CHUCK D IS BACK ON THE TRACK.  holy shit.  nuff said.

Edwin Van Cleef - Lisztomania ft Jane Hanley (Phoenix cover):  Phoenix's addictive pop is given a nice little chanteuse pop reworking.

Fourcolor - Frosted Mint
Fourcolor - Iris (Familiar):  I flip through some many experimental electronic laptoppy albums that I am constant ready to hit fastforward and skip to the next disc, but this one beat the odds and sucked me in and offered me some fabulous works.  The textures avoid the dubby and instead tinkle in that well-worn realm of ambient/idm DSP, but incorporate some fantastic layers of composition amongst it all.  Very much recommended if you love beautiful ehtereal electronic soundscapes.

Fucked Up - Queen Of Hearts
Fucked Up - Ship Of Fools:  New album is David Comes To Life.  So yeah, Canada pretty muchs run rock n roll these days.

Hauschka - Girls:  Another gorgeous track (see blog20110429) from the gorgeous album Salon des Amateurs.

Lykke Li - I Know Places (DJSB Remix):  Not that we are at all surprised, this number was just calling out for a mellowed-out dubstep rework.  Expect and ye shall receive, quoth the inernet.

Okkervil River - Wake and Be Fine:  Another fabulous single from the new album I Am Very Far!   Okkervil are back in tiptop form.

The Airplane Boys - Born To Be
The Airplane Boys - Ice Age
The Airplane Boys - La Rude, Lord Of The Flies:  Hipster rap doubled down.  Like, seriously.  Arcade Fire?  Radiohead?  beats circa Kanye's 808s & Heartbreak?  And holy that Lord Of The Flies track is dope, Project Blowed references and all.  All from the hot new album Where've You Been.  I wasn't in to the whole thing, but the high-points are staggeringly good.  Go buy it now.

Tsunenori - Forest Bathing:  Back to the lush idm basics:  Prominent breakbeat, piano, strings.  Perfect.

X Gets The Crest - Slow It Down...........:  Nicholas Jaar and Von Stroke gets some accompaniment in yr crates of woozybass.  Fucking amazing.

Yohuna - Mateo:  Some washed out dream pop to close it all off.
