Floating Points - Peroration Six: Elaenia is reminds me of the first time I heard Tortoise's Millions Now Living Will Never Die, except more influenced by Orb than post-rock. Recommended!
Gospel Machine - Just Call Me: Soul rock that sounds pretty much like the name would have you expecting!
Jim O'Rourke - All Your Love
Jim O'Rourke - Friends With Benefits
Jim O'Rourke - Last Year: Sometimes an album gets praise and you put it on and you just don't notice. And you go back, and again, and you're not IN TO IT, but intruiged. And then suddenly it clicks and realize suddenly that it has been working it's subtleties in to your brain and all at once the album is an essential brilliant whole. Simple Songs is fantastic, and doesn't quite live up to the title. While it's no O'Rourke's avant jams, the tones of this album might at first listen seem simple, but the songs themselves fold outward with a refined maturity and depth that would make a prog fan turn their head. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. Each of these songs could have been half of thier length and still been satisfying and lowkey, but they are bubbling with layers and complexity.

Eskimeaux - The Thunder Answered Back: Another overlooked winner: O.K. is full of so much charm and fun, with the brooding innocence of an Eric's Trip album and the confidence of Tune-Yards. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.
Jason Isbell - 24 Frames
Jason Isbell - How to Forget
Jason Isbell - If It Takes a Lifetime: I wasn't quite as in to this album as the stark solemn beauties of his prior album, but Something More Than Free has a few great tracks that are indispensable.
Merry Ellen Kirk - Ever After: It's that big final scene, she grasps for the curtains and stares up at the stars, filling herself with the silence of the universe. There must be some way out of this life. And that's when she notices a flicker.
Miguel - Leaves
Miguel - Waves: Wildheart is a big pile of incredibly sexy soul. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. Get on this pile.
Natasha Alexander - Black Bodies: Well this is all sorts of devastating.
Rae Spoon - I Know I'm Not The Only One (Sam Smith cover): oh swoon
Thundercat - Them Changes: This is worlds of awesome. The break, the funk, the piano, the horns, my gawd.
Tobias Jesso Jr. - Can't Stop Thinking About You
Tobias Jesso Jr. - Leaving LA: Oh and here's another one I slept on, and perhaps the most shameful of the lot. Goon is like if Ween at their most saccarine jammed with Beck at his most earthen folk. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

First up, the best album of 2014 that should have been 2015 but came out December 17th 2014...
D'Angelo and The Vanguard - Black Messiah
Had it come out 2 weeks later, this would be topping every 2015 list. And since jerkface "best of" list makers like to now release their lists on December 1st, they EMBARRASSINGLY missed this one. Take that, listmaker doofuses. (ummm...)

Arca - Umbilical: While still not being the singer-songwriter fest we are all awaiting, and still not quite up to the high water mark left by Amon Tobin, Mutant is wildly more satisfying than Xen and a monumental achievement of electronic music production. Highly recommended.

Beach House - Sparks: Depression Cherry continues the high bars set by prior Beach House albums. You won't be disappointed. And apparently they released another album this year? WTF dudes, I'm just getting to this one. OK OK OK you're awesome. Recommended.

It really continues an evolution that skips over the Mr. Bungle albums (which I love) and sticks to the FNM stylistic core. Goddamn that piano. Highly recommended.

Melt I was performed live 2015-09-04 at Carleton University Art Gallery, Ottawa.
Melt II was performed live 2015-09-05 at PDA Gallery, Ottawa.
Both performances were part of the Coalesce Festival.
The track "Melt I+II (fusion)" combines the recordings of both performances in to a single piece.

“phase transition of a substance from a solid to a liquid… when the internal energy of the solid increases” A plinth, an ice sculpture, a body and CPI. Two years after a welcomed prophylactic massectomy, Cara Tierney reflects on post-surgical corporeality as sound artist CPI sonically weaves icebergs and high-tension metals. This presentation mimics a gallery sculptural installation and as such people are encouraged to come and go as they please and drop-in at their convenience.

Colin Stetson and Sarah Neufeld - Won't Be A Thing To Become: Ummmmmm this is kind of perfect and amazing? Entering in to a duet, Stetson gets to chill the hell out and lay down some smooth loops for Neufeld to meld with. Never Were The Way She Was has me pretty excited, and we just need to layer on some valiums til we get ever closer to Bohren und der Club of Gore.
