MP3 blog 2009/10/19

blog 2009/10/19 - Don't regret this moment, you're better for it all.

Aphrodite - Crazy Diamond:  MEGA CHEESE ALERT!  But oh how could I resist?  Aphrodite drops his 2-step breakin business on some old Floyd business too

Au Revoir Simone - Shadows:  "Still Night, Still Light" is the latest from these synthpop reductionists.  I'd be lying if I said I loved it all, but a lot of it grew on me, with this track as the standout.  Reccomended for connoseuirs of esentialist girl synth pop.

Bassnectar - Boombox (Bassnectar & Ill Gates Remix):  A new full length from bass-mavens Bassnectar, this track teaming up with Canadian breaks superstar Ill Gates (aka Phat Conductor!).  The full length Cozza Frenzy is slamming.
Bassnectar - Cozza Frenzy ft Seasunz:  This is a hot single right here.  Also check the 12" for the Z-Trip mix.  Enthusiastically recommended if you want something to shuffle with your Buraka Som Siesta album.

Fish & Chips Vs. Feel Good Productions - Bouncing in Draut (Dons Dbn Radio Edit):  A super jazzy number that kind of just comes out of nowhere, and leaves shortly after.  A great little dancefloor shaker.

Flight Of The Conchords - Too Many Dicks (On The Dance Floor):  The new FOTC record is "I Told You I Was Freaky", but honestly you can probably survive off the youtube videos alone.
Flight Of The Conchords - We're Both In Love With A Sexy Lady:  The deadpan quick delivery really plays well in this track.  But still, probably won't last into the double-digit of listens.  :)

Lake - Gravel:  A fabulously rich track that unfolds like a storytime adventure.

Pamela Brennan - Another Lonely Day:  From the "One Hundred Photographs" record, another example of great Canadian straight-up folk.

Peggy Sue And The Pictures - Pupils Blink:  I have no idea about this band, but their LP is The Body Parts and from 2008, and I just love the exuberance and the accordion.  Oh so good.

Port O'Brien - I Woke Up Today:  Oh those boys, with their screaming and their shouting and hey put down that cookware!
http://portobrien.com/

Rae Spoon and Alex Decoupigny - U Bahn:  Rae Spoon teams up with multimedia artist Decoupigny and produces a short album on the Berlin experience.  Part sound-art, part folk, part electro, part country.  All goodness.
Rae Spoon and Alex Decoupigny - Won't Get Lost (Berlin Fever):  Highly recommended, and you can even get the whole album here: http://djcpi.blogspot.com/2009/10/rae-spoon-and-alex-decoupigny-what-are.html

Richard Skelton - Stake:  Taken from "Marking Time - Preservation", the strings here are haunting and full.  One day I will be rich enough to have this guy perform in front of me while I lay on the ground in a puddle of serotonin.

Shantel - Bucovina Original:  The guitar track of this song produced the house smash Bucovina, but the original is pretty freaking rad too.
Shantel - Good Night Amanes:  I won't go so far out as to recommend you snap up the full length album, but these two tracks are undeniably original and awesome.  Dedicated to the DJ K!

Simian Mobile Disco - Cruel Intentions ft Beth Ditto (Joker Remix):  You know what's awesome?  Simian Mobile Disco.  You know what's even better?  Joker on the hot hot remix.  You know what's best?  A little BETH FUCKING DITTO in the mix.

Tegan & Sara - Arrow:  Sainthood is the new record and will be available October 27th.  If you're a Tegan & Sara fan like me, this album is a MUST BUY.
Tegan & Sara - The Ocean:  It's by no means a musical innovation of the decade.  In fact, it sounds mostly interchangable with every other Tegan And Sara record.  But you know what that means:  Amazing pop rock tunes with ultimate singability that will annex space on every driving mixtape you make for the next year.

The Flaming Lips - See The Leaves:  I am not ashamed to admit that I stopped listening to Flaming Lips after Zaireeka.  I coveted that 4-disc set with glee and loved it, and it was the perfect time to let go of a great band, because hey why the hell are those Phish-smelling groupies hanging around at their shows?  Get out while the getting is good.
The Flaming Lips - Silver Trembling Hands:  But not I have come back to them with their new album Embryonic and it is a wonderful thing.  Ressurecting the creative energy of Zaireeka, and mining some of their pre-She Don't Use Jelly psych days, this album is still a swirl of sounds for me.  I haven't come up with a solid interpretation of it, but all I know is there is so much goodness here.  Get the 2 CD version, some of the bonus tracks are even better than the main disc.
