MP3 blog 2010/03/30

blog 2010/03/30 - everything glitters if you breathe too hard.

Wow, such restraint! I actually waited 6 days since the last update!  OK, the travel and performances had something to do with that, but on the other hand, I'm slacking...

A Weather - No Big Hope
A Weather - Third Of Life:  Don't mind the awkward grammar of the band title, the new album "Everyday Balloons" is a great little entry in to the whisper-core rennaissance.  The album plays like a cross between The XX and Great Lake Swimmers, which the structure and harmonies of The XX, but with the subtlety and tenders of GLS.  Especially with songs like "Third Of Life", they build slow and pleasantly, but halfway through there is immense payoff.

Balkan Beat Box - Adir Adirim ft Victoria Hanna (Nickodemus Remix):  This comes courtesy of the Turntables On The Hudson 10 Year Anniversary collection, a brilliant little swathe of breakbeat descrutction.  I'll post more from it later, but holy shit, I can't sit on this track any longer.

Bon Iver - Woods (Starkey Remix):  Oh yes.  Oh yes yes yes.  Yes please!  This was a very good idea.  A very very good idea indeed.

Broken Social Scene - All to All:  More new Broken Social Scene leaked!  Some of it is meh, but I do love this track.

CocoRosie - Lemonade
CocoRosie - R.I.P. Burn Face
CocoRosie - The Moon Asked the Crow:  OK, I don't think this is actually coming out until May, but here's a sneak peak.  I have an intense love-hate relatinoship with CocoRosie, since the stuff I love of theirs I LOVE SO DAMN MUCH I WANT TO SQUISH IT BETWEEN MY BOOBS.  And then stuff I don't love, I just kind of wish it evaporated away.  "Grey Oceans" is the new album, so keep an eye out for it this spring.

Fagget Fairys - Oci:  Another one of these electic electronic pop bands that produces an album that goes entirely under the radar, but the remixes go wild online.  Well the full length Feed the Horse is prett frickin' cool, if you're down with fun eclectic pop albums, ala Chemical Brothers or Peaches or Basement Jaxx, etc.  This track here?  Who can resist that horn+bass beat?

Four Tet - Love Cry (Joy Orbison Remix):  Joy Orbison, chilled stepmaster extraordinaire, extracts the finest moments from Four Tet's epic single and works it down to a much more bite-size nugget of rolling dubstep goodness.

Fuqugi - Alleyway
Fuqugi - Nightingale:  For this, I just have to let the bio speak for itself:  "Fuqugi is a solo project by Daiki Sakae residing in the wilderness of far south of Japan, Kagoshima. The surrounding nature brought significant inspirations to create these 15 imaginative tracks on his 1st official album "Gransofa + Nightingale"."    If the idea of gentle guitar improv in the Japanese wilderness just makes your mouth water, HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

Lily Allen - The Fear (Doctor Rosen Remix):  This is pretty frickin' fantastic and surprising.  Instead of just slamming on a house beat, they instead add piano and strings.  Very cool.

Malente - I Like It (Riva Starr SNATCH! Mix):  ...and to make up for the face-smashing bass above, we have a track of NOTHING BUT disco bass.

Mexican Institute of Sound - Cumbia (Deathface Remix):  Cumbia goes dubsteppy?  Niiiiiice.

Sufjan Stevens - Chicago (Live at KCRW):  And we close things off with a bit of Sufjan magic, recorded live on KCRW's Morning Becomes Eclectic 7/14/05.

Yael Naim - Toxic (Dubstep Remix):  From a bootleg 12" in 2008, Spears suddenly sounds good!  Downright sexxay.

  1. I love your blog, but a small correction: the Toxic version you have posted is not by Britney Spears. This version is by Yael Naim.
